Much wisodom can be gained by listening to our
elders'. Using the medicine wheel, they desribe the circle of life:
The native elders teach
us that everything in life is circular. We
observe the changing of the seasons, the travelling direction of the sun and the moon, how
we develop from birth to death and in the spirit realm. We are one within the circle of
life. The "Medicine Wheel" teaches us balance, to discover ourselves, and our
path.
EAST (yellow)
From the East, we begin to seek knowledge, the direction where everything is fresh and
new. To greet the sun and appreciate the potential for new learning experiences. The new
day that enables us to see the miracles and harmony of the Creator's creations. This could
be a new Journey in your life. Maybe South Dakota......
Pine Ridge or Rosebud.
SOUTH (red)
From the south, we experience growth, the direction where everything in life is
replenished and in full bloom. To taste the ripe fruit of appreciation and to not take
what we have for granted. God can use both the happy and the difficult experiences in our
life to grow us, to draw us closer to him, and to prepare us to better serve others.
WEST (black)
From the west, we encounter reflection and spiritual insight, the direction where dreams
and visions allow you to go within and appreciate yourself and your Creator. Examine and
reflect on your life and allow God to use you by saying YES to a purpose driven life.
NORTH (white)
From the North, we experience the purity, the direction where the secret to many cures are
found for healing. Like the white snow that resembles the white hair of our elders, we
honor wisdom. Wisdom comes from God. He is pure and will be the only one to bring true
healing to our life and to the lives of others. We can each be used by God to bring that
purity and truth to someone when we share Christ with them.
A Sioux Prayer
My Father, Great Spirit,
Who send'est the wind and the white snow from the north,
To make thy creation clean and pure,
Father, make me clean and pure within my heart,
That I may be accepted in thy sight and judgement.
Father, Great Spirit,
To the east from whence cometh the rising of the sun,
And all thy living creation,
Thou has added another day to my life,
For which I give thee thanks with all my heart.
Amen
When you have come to
the edge of all the light that you know, and you are about to step off the cliff into the
unknown.....
Faith is knowing one
of two things will happen:
There will be something solid to stand on or.....
You will be taught how to fly....... |
